thank u sm!! the colors i pick vary a lot - i lean on following light sources (overhead, under, etc) and how colors shift hues while reacting to light / dark. other than that, i like following color themes (i.e medkit being a mainly teal based character having a then, similar teal tint) !! you can follow a few tuts on hue shifting (primarily in pixel art for this case) for more info (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
